Part of the Full Tilt program, Vaudeville X is ‘entertaining dahr-ling’. It is a witty and cleverly written satire, which pokes fun at everything middle class and noveau riche. Sung in harmony and amusingly choreographed, it is a political package deal. With an abundance of joie de vivre, the three tuxedoed amigos, writer and director Michael Dalley together with Grant Cartwright and Daniel Fletcher, supported by musical director, John Thorn on piano, bemoan the death of elitism, explore the value of self improvement, are thankful to those who patronise the arts, and observe that only heterosexual females aged between 30 and 55 will attend a homosexual stage performance.
Having only graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2005, the youngest of the troop, Fletcher is outrageously energetic and animated with hilarious performances in ‘high art’ number, The Ghost Of The Post-Modern Dancer, and in a song about moron breakfast radio. Dalley is cheeky at every opportunity, and the trio are hilarious during the Maling Road Choir piece.
Contemporary and snappy in all respects, Vaudeville X is a hoot!
