Briefs: Close EncountersThe boys from Briefs are back in town and boy do these boys get around. Aerialists, illusionists, strippers, jugglers, dancers, hula hoopers, baton twirlers and dragged up self-deprecators – these fun and filthy fellas will be doing their best to shake the spire off Arts Centre Melbourne with a delicious serving of breath taking scopophilic revelry.

Regulars at arts and cultural festivals around the world, Close Encounters is the third and latest instalment from Briefs Factory. Premiering at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2017, this marvelous incarnation from the self-proclaimed “Manufacturers and distributors of evocative, irreverent, political punk performance” has subsequently thrilled audiences in London, Auckland, Sydney, Perth and Edinburgh.

With the boundaries of masculinity, burlesque and circus getting an almighty shove, the joy of an evening with the boys of Briefs is the interchange between marvelling at their artistry and the sheepish acknowledgement that a good portion of applause is firmly rooted in the salacious and titillating along with an ongoing absence of clothing. This is brazen unabashed raunch coupled with captivating mesmerising and beautifully executed skill. Fabulous!

More supple than subtle these boys aren’t just limber, they're liberal to the point of generous. For an outrageous smile assured and thrilling evening, Briefs: Close Encounters is seriously good stuff and seriously good fun so quickly round up a gang because this season is indeed brief and they’ll be gone faster than some of their costumes.

For all that they do and all that they stand for, I love these boys and you will too.
