A Couple Decides What To Have For Dinner

The perfect Melbourne Comedy Festival theatre experience.

When Harry Met Sally meets Waiting For Godot.

From the makers of Mystery Radio Theatre comes a comedy for anyone who has ever been in a relationship. Or who has avoided relationships because of crap like this.

A married couple sit on a couch and try to decide what to have for dinner. For 50 ridiculous, stupid, hilarious minutes. Which is shorter than in real life, but that’s all the time we have.

And all from within the walls of The Butterfly Club - a speakeasy-like venue with an entrance at the end of one of Melbourne's classic alleyways.

"... a must-see for theatre lovers and comedy enthusiasts alike. So, grab a cocktail, settle in, and prepare for an evening of laughter" - What's The Show

“…an oh so silly, but at the same time clever and satisfying ride into the absurd… In fact it would be a crime not to see this outrageous, witty… offering” - Alex First, Subculture Media

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.

To Shakespeare’s text be true is the obvious goal here, and writer, director and actor have each scored.

In the care of Pinchgut Opera’s director, Erin Helyard, this music, formulaic as it indeed is in some respects, sprang off the page into an experience rich in emotions.

Even when individual works did not fully land for me dramaturgically, there is no denying the precision, intelligence and care of the artists creating them.

Unabashedly and unapologetically entertaining, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels delights in its hoax hokum, a whimsical hustle of musical comedy bustle.
