What's On

SISTREN 'ISLA' Community Night

SISTREN is Iolanthe's ★★★★★, hit play that took Sydney by storm in 2025. This year it's back and better than ever.

Isla and Violet are a ‘lethal combination’. Too-smart, too precocious and way too outspoken, the world outside their South London school is a divisive one for a cisgender Caribbean diva and her ‘Ethel Cain adjacent’ transgender bestie. As their cosmic connection is tested, one key question arises—will Isla and Violet be pulled apart, or will they reign supreme?

SISTREN’s ‘Isla’ night invites all those who identify with the Bla(c)k community (both Afro-Diasporic and Blakfulla Communities) to share in the experience and discussion of the show with writer and performer Iolanthe. The night aims to create a theatrical experience that speaks directly to the Iolanthe’s community and encourages Bla(c)k people to feel safe, seen and connected.

We kindly request that those who do not identify as Bla(c)k to please consider attending an alternative performance in the season.

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.

    Izzard: The Tragedy of Hamlet
To Shakespeare’s text be true is the obvious goal here, and writer, director and actor have each scored.

The First Murder | Pinchgut Opera
In the care of Pinchgut Opera’s director, Erin Helyard, this music, formulaic as it indeed is in some respects, sprang off the page into an experience rich in emotions.

Even when individual works did not fully land for me dramaturgically, there is no denying the precision, intelligence and care of the artists creating them.

Unabashedly and unapologetically entertaining, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels delights in its hoax hokum, a whimsical hustle of musical comedy bustle.
