
This is a dark tale played out in a brilliantly designed and almost surreal world, with a plot that combines horror, humour and intelligence.

This is a charming and magical performance that is genuinely great for kids and grown ups alike.
Les Misérables returns to the Adelaide stage, co-directed by Joshua Penley and Shane Davidson. Featuring a seminal score by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, the musical follows an entourage of characters in their pursuit of redemption, revolution and love. Staging Les Misérables is obviously a huge undertaking. While there were some absolutely wonderful elements, at the end of the day it failed to impress.


For Sir Terry Pratchett fans the play is laugh-out-loud funny, incessantly pleasurable, and totally memorable. With its likeable mixture of satire and humanity, the production is engaging, active and smart, if a tad congested. Yet as a ludicrous romp it's difficult not to enjoy.
The show was certainly hard to fault; the fifty production students and fourteen acting students having created a chic and well-oiled production of professional standard.

State Theatre Company's revitalisation of Top Girls demonstrates that the play continues to be pertinent despite being 30-years-old.
